Board of Directors

L Janusz Hooker - Chairman

In 2009 Janusz Hooker, the grandson of founder LJ Hooker, led a consortium of investors who acquired the LJ Hooker company from Suncorp.

In 2015 Janusz consolidated the ownership base to prepare the company for an exciting future; continued market share growth and to cement its position as Australasia’s number 1 real estate network.

Janusz has had a dynamic career including being the managing director of Asia for W.P. Carey & Co, a New York-based real estate investment firm with a US$10 billion portfolio of 650 commercial properties worldwide.

Prior to this role he was the founder and CEO of TiNSHED, an Asia-Pacific investment firm comprising a group of the region's leading private investors; and in his early career he was investment officer at the Asian Infrastructure Fund in Hong Kong and a business analyst on the China desk at Price Waterhouse.

Janusz is passionate about youth education co-founding the Foundation for Kids in New York and the Kids to Coast Program for the Mutitjulu Community in Central Australia.

Janusz has a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of Business in the United States, with a concentration in finance. He is an avid sportsman and represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games receiving a bronze medal in rowing.

Bryan Weir - Director

Bryan Weir joined the Board of LJ Hooker in May 2014 after 35 years of corporate and business experience.

Graduating from University of New South Wales with degrees in law and commerce, Bryan became a partner of Freehill Hollingdale & Page (now Herbert Smith Freehills) in 1981. He developed a high profile commercial practice in Australia, and was also given the role of opening and/or managing Freehills’ representative offices in various interstate and overseas locations, including Perth, Melbourne, Singapore, Jakarta and Vietnam.

Leaving Freehills in 1995, Bryan joined Macquarie Bank as a Divisional Director and became the principal adviser on a number of significant infrastructure projects, including the Eastern Distributor Motorway and the Olympic Stadium at Homebush.

Bryan resigned from Macquarie Bank to pursue private business interests in 1999. With a business partner, he co-founded (and co-owns) the Walker Douglas group of companies, a private investment group with substantial interests in commercial and industrial real estate and in the hospitality industry.
Bryan became a non executive director of Wridgways Australia Limited upon its ASX listing in 1999, and assumed the role as Chairman in 2008. He remained Chairman until the company was purchased in a negotiated acquisition and de-listed in 2011.

Bryan is keenly involved in the sport of rowing, as an administrator, a coach and a veteran participant. He was the President of Mosman Rowing Club from 2004 until 2009 and is a Director of Rowing Australia.
